Funding for Groups to Participate in Hadrian’s Wall 1900 Festival

Community

18 May 2022/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Groups, organisations, and venues along the length of Hadrian’s Wall can apply for funding to deliver festival events and activities that celebrate 1900 years of the World Heritage Site.

Grants of between £250 and £5,000 are available for constituted groups and organisations to develop and deliver events and activities as part of the Hadrian’s Wall 1900 Festival, celebrating the 1900th anniversary of the beginning of the construction of Hadrian’s Wall.

Throughout 2022, the Hadrian’s Wall Community Grants Programme will enable groups to develop and deliver events and activities that:

  • Take place between Hadrian’s birthday (24 January 2022) and Saturnalia (23 December 2022).
  • Take place within 10 miles of one or more of the following (if physical rather than online):
    • The line of Hadrian’s Wall.
    • Arbeia Roman Fort in South Shields.
    • The Cumbrian Coastline from Bowness-on-Solway to Ravenglass.
  • Have an appropriate reference to the 1900 anniversary of Hadrian’s Wall, including:
    • The people from the Wall from all backgrounds.
    • The environment of the Wall.
    • World Heritage Site status.
    • The archaeology and heritage of the Roman Army and Frontiers.
    • 1900 years of history (122CE to 2022CE).
    • Life on the Wall.
    • Promotion of Hadrian’s Wall as a visitor destination.
  • Are suitable for a family audience, unless specifically stated otherwise.
  • Consider accessibility requirements to ensure that the broadest audiences can experience the activity or event.
  • Are delivered sustainably.

Particular interest will be given to projects that address the following themes:

  • Multiculturalism and Hadrian’s Wall.
  • Celebrating Saturnalia.
  • Flora, Fauna, Geology, and Astronomy – Hadrian’s Wall and the Natural World.

Funding will support the delivery of a wide range of activities, including but not limited to walks, lectures, conferences, workshops, crafts, performances, exhibitions, music, or photography. Priority will be given to projects that are inclusive, embrace diversity, and explore new ways to celebrate the history of Hadrian’s Wall.

There are three funding rounds in 2022.

The deadline for applications for round one is 15 June 2022.

How To Apply

In 2022 there are three rounds of funding:

  • Round One – From 15 May to 15 June.
  • Round Two – From 1 July to 31 July.
  • Round Three – From 1 September to 30 September.

Further information will be provided at an online workshop and information session taking place by Zoom on 19 May (16:30).

Applicants will be informed of any decisions made four weeks from the grant round deadline.

Guidance notes and two separate application forms for grants between £250 and £999, and grants between £1,000 and £5,000, are available from the Hadrian’s Wall 1900 Festival website.
