Grants for Securing a Fairer Future Now Available

Health & Social Welfare

18 October 2022/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Funding to address systemic inequity whilst building the power and capacity of people and organisations.

The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, one of the largest grant-making institutions in the UK, has reopened its Fairer Future funding stream with revised priorities.

Under the 2022 Strategy, there is a focus on work that contributes to a socially just and anti-racist society, where people have their rights protected, as well as the opportunity to speak and be heard, and the freedom to express their creativity.

There are five updated priority areas:

  • Arts and Creativity Making Change.
  • Children and Young People’s Rights.
  • Racial Justice.
  • Gender Justice.
  • Migrant Justice.

Charities and organisations that are undertaking work that is legally charitable in the UK can apply, providing they are properly constituted and their annual turnover is at least £100,000.

The minimum grant offered is £30,000, with grants offered across a fairly wide spectrum of sizes. As such, organisations are encouraged to apply for the amount that they need.

Most grants are for three years or longer and can cover project/core costs. Unrestricted grants can also be offered to registered charities.

There will be a series of webinars in the coming weeks for addressing each of the programme’s priorities.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

How To Apply

To apply for funding organisations first need to complete the eligibility quiz available on the Foundation’s website.

They can then submit a 100 word Expression of Interest and will hear back from the Foundation within four weeks.

The Foundation will discuss the proposal with the organisation and will invite them to submit a full proposal if the project is a good fit.

12 October 2022 Update: The Foundation has launched its new strategy for A Fairer Future. The funders will be hosting information webinars to discuss the new priorities and application process on the following days:

  • Arts and Creativity Making Change - 17 October 2022, 2pm to 3pm.
  • Children and Young People’s Rights - 31 October 2022, 2pm to 3pm.
  • Racial, Gender and Migrant Justice - 3 November 2022, 11am to 12.30pm.

Applications continue to be accepted under the themes of ‘Our Natural World’ and ‘Creative, Confident Communities’ as normal.

Guidance notes and FAQs are available on the website of the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
