Funding to support groups to celebrate and/or educate about the history of the MV Empire Windrush and the contributions of the Windrush Generation to UK life.
The UK Government has announced details of its annual Windrush Day Grant Scheme, with 2023 marking the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the MV Empire Windrush in the United Kingdom.
This year, the fund will be administered by Near Neighbours, and applications will be accepted from groups in Northern Ireland as well as England.
There is a funding pot of £750,000, with grants available in the following sizes:
- Tier 1: smaller projects between £5,000 and £24,999.
- Tier 2: larger projects between £25,000 and £50,000.
Local authorities, registered charities/community interest companies or community groups with a charitable purpose can apply.
Activities in 2023 need to support the central aims of Windrush Day – to tell the story of the Windrush Generation and celebrate and recognise how they have shaped Britain’s heritage. Projects should be rooted in communities and involve the Windrush Generation descendants in as many areas as possible as well as those from different age groups and background.
There will be online and in-person bidder workshops in January and February 2023.
The deadline to apply is 22 February 2023.
