IUK Launches Engineering Biology Collaborative Research and Development Competition

Digital & Technology

07 February 2023/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Organisations can apply for funding to develop Engineering Biology technologies, processes, products and services, or apply Engineering Biology to societal challenges.

Through this competition, Innovate UK (IUK) will fund business-led research and development (R&D) that will lead to new Engineering Biology (EngBio) products, processes or services, and de-risk the adoption of new EngBio technologies that offer high market potential.

Proposals must align with one or more of the below themes, or focus on cross cutting technology or service development:

  • Food systems
  • Biomedicine
  • Clean growth
  • Environmental solutions

The funding will help to accelerate the development and adoption of technologies and techniques, and by doing so, provide solutions to societal challenges.

Up to £7 million has been allocated to fund industrial research projects and experimental development projects. Each project’s total costs must be between £100,000 and £500,000.

This competition is open to single applicants and collaborations. To lead a project, or work alone, an organisation must be a UK registered business of any size. To collaborate with the lead, an organisation must be a business of any size, academic institution, charity, not-for-profit, public sector organisation, or research and technology organisation (RTO).

The deadline for applications is 29 March 2023 (11:00 BST).
