Carlisle City Council is providing local businesses with free access to its local business support and grant portal provided by Open4Business. This is tailored for the Carlisle area and includes local, regional and national schemes.

Business can also search for funding relevant to their size and sector. To use the portal, you will first need to register with Open4Business.

Launch of the 2022 Global CleanTech Challenge

A global competition for innovative clean technology business ideas has opened for a new round of applications.

The CleanTech Challenge is an international business plan competition for innovative clean technology product ideas. It brings together business and technical students to create viable start-ups. Teams compete for a prize, awarded during Bootcamp finals. Entrants are mentored by industry experts from the cleantech, entrepreneurial and related sectors.

The Challenge begins with students submitting ideas for new green businesses. Entries can address some of these topics:

  • Maturity of technology
  • Cost & Scalability
  • Feasibility of implementation
  • Revenue streams
  • Target market
  • Competitive advantage
  • Social acceptability
  • Alignment with government policies

The winner(s) will receive a cash award of £7,500+. This prize may be split among the teams, for instance in the case of a tie. The winners and all finalists attending the Bootcamp will get:

  • Feedback on their ideas from world class clean technology venture capitalists.
  • Introduction to a network of clean technology entrepreneurs, investors and potential partners.
  • Mentoring by experienced professionals.

The Challenge is for university students only, and is targeted at those currently undertaking a postgraduate degree (Masters or Doctoral) in a business, science or engineering discipline at a recognised Higher Education Institution anywhere in the world.

The first stage of applications closes on 30 March 2022.

 

How To Apply

This is an annual programme.

Entries submitted for Stage 1 must be submitted by 30 March 2022.
