National Deaf Children’s Society Offering Grants to Support Young Deaf People

Children & Young People

20 September 2022/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Groups of young deaf people aged between 8 and 25 can apply for funding to create new and exciting projects that improve their lives and make positive changes for themselves and other young deaf people.

The National Deaf Children’s Society is offering grants of up to £1,000 to support young deaf people that wish to deliver projects and activities that benefit their lives.

Through the Make a Change Fund, young deaf people aged between 8 and 25 can bring their own ideas to life, such as improving their local area, addressing an issue they and other young deaf people may face, or pushing for greater inclusion. Creative projects involving art, drama, music, film etc, and projects that tie their ideas in with school projects or youth group activities will also be considered.

Previously funded projects have included:

  • A sign language club to help deaf and hearing classmates communicate with each other.
  • Improve deaf awareness at local leisure centres.
  • Providing deaf awareness tips with bus drivers and emergency services staff.

Groups can be a mixture of deaf and hearing young people. A youth worker or an organisation such as a school or youth group must be involved to support and manage the funds.

Applications can be submitted at any time.

How To Apply

Applications can be submitted at any time.

There is a two-stage application process:

  • Applicants should first complete a brief online expression of interest.
  • Applicants will then be contacted by email and provided with the necessary information to submit a full application.

Guidance notes are available from the National Deaf Children’s Society website.
