Public Engagement Funding Available for Engineering Projects

Education, Employment and Training

26 July 2022/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Funding available to enhance the public engagement skills of engineers in the UK and provide opportunities to engage in debate with the public (both young people and adults) on engineering and its impact on society.

Innovative proposals are sought to help engineers, or science and engineering communicators, promote their expertise and explore ways to provide engaging training opportunities to a wider public.

The scheme would also welcome proposals that aim to encourage deeper discussions between engineers and the wider public about the implications of engineering for society, such as, the cultural and ethical impact.

The aims of the Ingenious grant programme are to:

  • Inspire creative public engagement with engineering projects.
  • Motivate engineers to share their stories, passion and expertise with wider audiences and develop their communication and engagement skills
  • Raise awareness of the diversity, nature and impact of engineering among people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Provide opportunities for engineers to engage with members of the public from groups currently underrepresented in engineering.

Applications are welcome from UK based:

  • Engineering organisations and institutions
  • Universities
  • Colleges
  • Schools
  • Science and engineering communicators
  • Public engagement specialists
  • Joint applications from engineers and organisations specialising in communication, education, arts or policy (e.g. think-tanks).

Funding of between £3,000 and £30,000 is available for project costs directly related to the development and delivery of the proposed project such as salaries, consultancy, events, materials and travel and subsistence.
