Sea-Changers Launches Innovation Fund

Energy, Environment & Climate

29 June 2022/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Funding for UK-based charities and not-for-profit organisations to support new ideas and experimental solutions in the field of marine conservation.

Sea-Changers is the UK charity dedicated to raising money for UK-based marine conservation. Its vision is to create a world where the seas and shores are clean and healthy and marine species are protected.

The new fund, supported by the William Grant Foundation and Liga, aims to encourage new approaches to marine conservation challenges and accelerate possible solutions to issues such as climate change, pollution, over-fishing and the decline of key marine species that are affecting the UK's coast and seas.

This year, a total of £30,000 is available and will be split equally between the following three areas:

  • Projects based in/taking place in Scotland (supported by The William Grant Foundation).
  • Projects that are aimed at preventing or addressing the issue of plastics in the marine environment, anywhere in the UK (supported by Liga).
  • Projects anywhere in the UK in any area of marine conservation innovation.

Sea-Changers envisages making between 3 and 15 grant awards from this round with grants of up to £10,000 for any one project. Applications for the larger awards of £5,000 to £10,000 will need to be exceptionally compelling to be successful.

Funding can be used for ideas or projects that are genuinely new and untested solutions to the UK's marine conservation challenges.

This includes any innovation that may:

  • Address the root causes of marine conservation threats and challenges in the UK.
  • Prevent or reduce negative impacts on UK coastal and marine environments and/or species.
  • Add to the body of knowledge about marine conservation threats and challenges in the UK and ways to overcome them.

The deadline for applications is 18 September 2022 (midnight).
