Support for Marine Conservation and Environmental Protection Projects across the UK

Energy, Environment & Climate

20 September 2022/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Grants of up to £2,500 are available for UK-based not-for-profit organisations to carry out marine conservation and environmental protection activities.

Marine conservation charities and not-for-profit organisations based and working in the United Kingdom can now apply for up to £2,500 for projects that address marine conservation issues and help protect UK coastal and marine environments/species. Sea-Changer’s Main and Small Grants Programmes are available for projects that tackle at least one of the following objectives:

  • To address the root causes of marine conservation threats and challenges in the UK.
  • To prevent or reduce negative impacts on UK coastal and marine environments and/or species.
  • To add to the body of knowledge about marine conservation threats and challenges in the UK.

There are two levels of funding available:

  • Small Grants programme - Up to £500.
  • Main Grants programme - Between £500 and £2,500.

There is particular interest in grassroots projects which galvanise community action and in projects which increase the number of people acting for marine conservation.

Groups that seek to address the impacts of marine plastic pollution can apply to the Tackling Ocean Plastics Fund through either the small or large grants programme.

Applications for small grants are accepted at any time and reviewed regularly. Large grant applications are considered twice a year.

The next deadline is 30 September 2022.

How To Apply

The Small Grants Programme is currently open. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed regularly.

The Main Grants programme has two application rounds per year with deadlines of 31 March and 30 September.

In 2022 applications to the Tackling Ocean Plastics Fund are made through the Main and Small Grants programmes. Applicants should indicate on their application form that they are applying to this specific fund.

The application forms and guidelines are available on the Sea-Changers website.

All applications will be acknowledged and results will be communicated after the grant panel has made their final decision. For the Main Grants programme this is usually 8-10 weeks after the application deadline, for the Small Grants programme it is sooner.
