Turing Scheme Opens for Applications for Third Year

Education, Employment and Training

21 February 2023/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Schools, colleges and universities in the UK have until 6 April to apply for funding to provide their students with an opportunity to study and work abroad starting in September.

Announced in December 2020, the Turing Scheme is a competitive grant funding scheme. It provides grants to organisations to fund individuals undertaking education and training in the UK, to go on study or work placements across the world.

The scheme aims to create life-changing opportunities for participants, particularly those from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds, across the UK. Working and studying in a different country provides an opportunity to develop new skills, gain vital international experience and boost their employability. They can also develop a wide range of soft skills, language skills and a better understanding of other cultures. Participating organisations find they gain fresh ideas whilst building relationships with international peers.

Applications will be accepted from UK and British Overseas Territories organisations from across the education and training sector, including schools, universities and higher education providers, further education colleges and other providers of vocational education and training.

Commenting on her students’ experience, a teacher from Lancashire said:

“The experience has developed confidence in many of the students and will give them loads of rich examples to discuss in future applications for college, university, apprenticeships and employment.

“We are in an area that is economically deprived, and the Turing Scheme funding means we can offer this opportunity to students that would otherwise never get the chance for a trip like this.”

All changes from last year's programme are highlighted in the 2023-24 programme guide.

The deadline for applications is 6 April 2023 (4pm).

How To Apply

Applications for the third year of the flagship government programme, the Turing Scheme, are open with placements available across the globe starting from 1 September 2023 and running to 31 August 2024.

The online application portal opens on 14 February 2023 and closes to applications on 6 April 2023 (4pm).

Applicants are advised to read both the programme and application guide before submitting an application. These guides can be found on the Turing Fund's website.
