Uber Launches Fund for Black-owned Restaurant Businesses

Business, Enterprise and Regeneration

31 October 2022/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Uber is delivering financial support to help Black-owned restaurants that are recovering from the pandemic and/or struggling with the energy price hike.

The Uber Black Business Fund aims to help Black-owned businesses in the restaurant industry that are experiencing financial pressures. Evidence shows that Black-owned businesses in particular are facing disproportionate challenges in accessing the finance they need.

The Fund is targeting food and drink firms because of the unique challenges they are currently experiencing. Many still recovering from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are now facing rising supply and energy costs.

A total funding pot of £250,000 will be distributed to Black-owned restaurants that need additional financial support. Twenty five restaurants will each receive £10,000, as well as access to mentoring from Enterprise Nation, to help boost their businesses. The money can be spent on professional services and/or equipment that will help a business grow.

To be eligible for the competition, a food business:

  • Must be Black-owned.
  • Must have been trading for at least 18 months.
  • Should have fewer than five locations.

Applications will close on Friday 25 November 2022 (23.59 GMT).
