Windrush Day Grant Scheme – Deadline Reminder

Arts, Culture and Heritage

14 February 2023/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Funding to celebrate, commemorate and/or educate about the history of the MV Empire Windrush and the contribution of the Windrush Generation to life in Britain.

Groups have around two weeks left to apply to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC)’s Windrush Day Grant Scheme.

2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the arrival of HM Windrush in the UK, with a funding pot of £750,000 on offer for commemorative projects. The grants available are as follows:

  • Tier 1: smaller projects between £5,000 and £24,999.
  • Tier 2: larger projects between £25,000 and £50,000.

Local authorities, registered charities/community interest companies or community groups with a charitable purpose based in either England or Northern Ireland can apply.

Activities need to support the central aims of Windrush Day – to tell the story of the Windrush Generation and celebrate and recognise how they have shaped Britain’s heritage. Projects should be rooted in communities and involve the Windrush Generation descendants in as many areas as possible as well as those from different age groups and background.

22 June marks National Windrush Day and projects must include an activity on this date. Events and activities can take place over a longer period, but all projects must be completed by 31 August 2023.

The deadline to apply is 22 February 2023.
