Zero Emission Propulsion - IUK Announces New Collaborative R&D Competition

UK registered businesses can lead applications for funding to carry out net zero propulsion innovative projects.

Forming part of the Future Economy Net Zero programme, this Innovate UK (IUK) competition will focus on net zero propulsion technologies for the transport sector. It supports the Government’s drive for zero emission transport and systems as part of the net zero commitment for 2050.

IUK will fund collaborative industrial research projects covering propulsion technologies only. Projects must demonstrate significant improvements in net zero propulsion technologies which may apply across multiple transport modes.

Up to £10 million has been allocated to fund projects, with funding offered in the form of a grant. Project must have total costs between £250,000 and £1.5 million. Projects must focus on one or more of the following transport sectors: Clean maritime; Rail; Automotive; Aerospace.

The competition is open to collaborations only. To lead a project an organisation must be a UK registered business of any size. The lead must collaborate with another UK business of any size, academic institution, charity, not for profit, public sector organisation, or research and technology organisation (RTO). Applications must involve at least one micro, small or medium-sized enterprise (SME).

Applications are accepted from 17 October 2022 until 7 December 2022.
