Funding for UK community organisations to establish a new Community Fridge to minimise food waste.
Not-for-profit groups across the UK can now apply for grants of £4,000 to cover all costs associated with establishing a new Community Fridge. This includes:
- Staffing.
- Buying fridges and freezer.
- Volunteer expenses.
- Utilities.
- Insurance.
- Print display materials.
- Cleaning materials.
- Relevant staff training.
To be eligible for funding, organisations must:
- Be setting up a new Community Fridge which has not yet opened.
- Establish the Community Fridge within six months and have intentions to sustain the project for at least three years.
- See the potential for setting up future food and environment-related projects.
The Fridge should be open to the whole community and not used for emergency food provision, and ideally not located within a two-mile radius of an existing Community Fridge or similar project.
100 Community Fridge projects are expected to receive grants, with applicants from areas with higher levels of deprivation given priority.
