Funding to Support Veterans from Afghanistan and Other Recent Conflicts

Health & Social Welfare Funding

20 December 2021/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Funding for UK charities with projects that improve wellbeing, resilience and promote good mental health for veterans who have served in Afghanistan and other recent conflicts and the wider veterans community.

Provided by the Office for Veterans Affairs and administered by the Armed Forces Covenant Trust, this new grants programme is providing grants to UK charities that specifically support people from Armed Forces communities.

The Fund aims to increase capacity in services and initiatives that offer supportive comradeship, engagement, and wellbeing efforts for those in the Armed Forces community impacted by events in Afghanistan, and the wider veterans community.

Applicants can only apply under one of the following four strands:

  • Strand 1 - grants of up to £100,000 for projects lasting up to two years to support veterans’ community mental health.
  • Strand 2 - grants of up to £300,000 to increase supportive comradeship, connectedness and engagement to improve wellbeing, resilience and good mental health.
  • Strand 3 - grants of up to £100,000 for projects lasting up to two years to enable veterans to support Afghanistan refugees that have arrived in the UK.
  • Strand 4 - grants of up to £35,000 for projects lasting up to one year. Under this Strand, enhanced grants of up to £70,000 are also available. These grants are for regional and more localised projects that increase capacity in services and initiatives that offer support and comradeship, engagement and wellbeing efforts.

The grants can be used for a number of different costs including staff time, purchasing items that provide practical support and reasonable overheads.

The deadline for applications is 17 January 2022.

How To Apply

Applications must be submitted by the deadline of 17 January 2022.

Applications can only be made under one Strand. Applicants must choose the funding Strand that is the best fit for their organisation and project.

The guidance notes for each Strand of the fund are available on the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust website.
