Geovation Launches Diffuse Coastal Pollution Challenge

Energy, Environment & Climate Funding

26 January 2022/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

This programme aims to find a sustainable solution to tackle diffuse coastal pollution around the UK, undertaken by innovators and limited companies.

Geovation, Ordnance Survey’s open innovation network hub, has launched a challenge with the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) to find a sustainable solution to tackle diffuse coastal pollution.

Diffuse pollution is pollution from multiple, often unidentified sources. It can prove damaging to the environment, due to the potential release of pollutants. Diffuse coastal pollution may occur as a direct result of urban, marine and agricultural pollution sources, frequently driven by rainfall and land management. This can accumulate on the coastline and in estuaries that affect the wildlife and local residents in those areas.

The challenge aims to address diffuse pollution and look at sustainable solutions to improve water quality, but also improve efficiencies, profitability and sustainability from agriculture to the water and sewage infrastructure, as well as improving beach cleanliness and wildlife conservation as a direct result of pollution from humans and animals.

Winners of the challenge will receive up to £5,000 and PR Opportunities. They will also have an opportunity to collaborate with UKHO, Ordnance Survey, the Met Office and the British Geological Survey.

UK registered limited companies, and innovators who are UK residents over 18 years old who want to make a positive impact on the environment, may apply.

The deadline for applications to be submitted is 20 February 2022.

How To Apply

The deadline to apply is 20 February 2022.

Applicants will need to submit a slide deck (15 slides maximum) and video (3 minutes maximum).

More details can be accessed at the Geovation website.
