Google Global Goals Call for Applications for AI-based Solutions to Societal Challenges

Digital & Technology

24 January 2023/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Funding and technical expertise are available to organisations worldwide to advance AI-based projects which address global societal problems.

Google.org is inviting funding applications from organisations around the world that are using artificial intelligence to create new, innovative solutions to existing societal problems and to make progress against the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

Previously supported Google.org projects have included AI-powered tools to track air quality and pollution, and the use of bioacoustic monitoring to detect immediate deforestation threats. Successful applicants under the latest call for applications will receive support through a combination of funding, product donations and technical expertise.

The call is open to any non-profit organisation, public charity, research institution or for-profit business from around the world, provided that they apply for a project that has a charitable purpose. The organisation must have a registered office in its country of residence. Only one organisation may be the applicant of record, but Google.org welcomes and encourages collaboration.

Selected organisations will benefit from customised support to help bring their ideas to life. They will also receive funding from a U$25 million fund. Google expects individual grants may range from US$500,000 to US$2 million, and that funding will be spent over the course of 12 to 36 months.

Applications may be made at any time and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The application window will remain open until all selections are made.
