Launch of £26m Industrial Hydrogen Accelerator Programme

Energy, Environment & Climate

03 May 2022/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

This programme will provide funding for UK business-led innovation projects that can demonstrate end-to-end industrial fuel switching to hydrogen.

The Industrial Hydrogen Accelerator (IHA) competition supports projects generating evidence on end-to-end industrial fuel switching to hydrogen. It will cover the full technology chain, from hydrogen generation and delivery infrastructure through to industrial end-use, including the integration of the components in a single project.

The competition will fund demonstrations and, where needed, feasibility and FEED studies.

The feasibility studies will explore how systems could be designed and provide information on the technical requirements and costs. Demonstration projects will construct end-to-end industrial hydrogen systems, from hydrogen production to end-use, to prove their feasibility and provide further evidence on the real-world performance and costs.

The programme has an overall budget of £26 million. It will be structured as follows:

  • Stream 1: Demonstration Projects Grants. Up to £17 million is available, with up to £10 million in grant funding per project.
  • Stream 2A: Feasibility Studies (SBRI). Up to £2 million is available, with up to £400,000 in grant funding per project.
  • Stream 2B: Demonstration / FEED Projects Grants. Up to £7 million will be available. This strand is likely to open in December 2022. It follows on from Stream 2A and will only be open to projects that have completed feasibility studies in Stream 2A.

UK businesses, working alone or in a consortium, undertaking projects focused on industrial fuel switching to hydrogen, may apply.

The registration deadline for Stream 1 is 7 July 2022 (14:00 BST). The registration deadline for Stream 2A is 9 June 2022 (14:00 BST).
