Launch of IUK’s Driving the Electric Revolution - Building Talent for the Future 2: EoI Competition

Education, Employment and Training Funding

11 January 2022/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

UK registered organisations can access support for innovative skills, talent, and training projects for Power Electronics, Motors and Drives (PEMD).

Electric and hybrid vehicles, domestic appliances and other applications are creating a considerable need for next-generation power electronics, electric machines and drives (PEMD). For the UK to be able to design, develop and manufacture these products, it requires skilled people across all levels.

The Innovate UK (IUK) Driving the Electric Revolution Challenge is now investing in projects building talent for the future. The aim is to fund several ideas that quickly fill immediate gaps in skills, talent and training for the PEMD industry.

This is an expression of interest (EoI) stage of a two-stage competition. There is no funding at this EoI stage. If successful in this stage, applicants will be invited to apply to the full stage competition which will open in March 2022.

The aim of the full stage competition is to create and deliver course content and materials that will support skills, talent and training across PEMD manufacturing and supply chain; building awareness of PEMD and filling key gaps in the UK's workforce talent and training capabilities.

IUK has allocated up to £4.5 million to fund projects in the full stage competitions. Each project’s total eligible costs must be between £50,000 and £1 million. IUK will also be running a separate open competition for projects with costs below £50,000. To apply for this, applicants do not need to complete this EoI stage.

This EoI competition is open to single applicants and collaborations. To lead a project, work alone, or collaborate with the lead, an organisation must be a UK registered business of any size, research organisation, research and technology organisation (RTO), academic institution, charity, not-for-profit or public sector organisation.

The lead must demonstrate clear industrial support for their application, covering a cross section of technologies and sectors, work in, or have strong industrial ties with the PEMD sector and carry out its project work in the UK.

The deadline for applications is Wednesday 2 February 2022 (11:00 GMT).
