New Round of Grants to Support the Education of Refugee Children in Europe and the Middle East

Children & Young People

26 January 2022/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Funding for projects which improve the educational experience of refugee and displaced children with a focus on innovation and creative solutions.

The Al Madad Foundation is a London-based charity whose objective is to support civil society institutions and schools in delivering creative and innovative solutions to problems facing refugee children in countries across Europe and the Middle East.

Registered charities can apply for grants of up to £250,000 for a defined project of up to three years’ duration. Funding is usually awarded at values of £20,000, £50,000 and £100,000.

Work must take place in one of the selected eligible countries, a list of which can be found on the Foundation website.

The Foundation is particularly interested in the following areas:

  • Direct pathways to formal education - creating exceptional opportunities for formal and alternative education, and vocational training answering specific needs and presenting realistic solutions for refugee children and youth. Education taking place in-person is preferred.
  • Social work and child protection in education - particularly non-formal education and addressing the need for funders to be required to integrate a social work/support professional into projects to document issues and refer cases to existing government or civil society support systems as needed.
  • Pupil tracking - innovative ways of accurately tracking pupil integration into, and monitoring their outcomes within, the formal education system.
  • Research into impact - focusing on past and current education schemes to make evidence-based suggestions for the future of such programmes. The Foundation is particularly interested in studies looking at the effectiveness and outcomes of distance learning as a solution to cope with the coronavirus pandemic.
