Bins and Recycling

Carlisle City Council provide householders with either a grey refuse wheelie bin or seagull proof sack for household waste, a garden waste bin, kerbside recycling boxes (for tins and cans and glass bottles and jars) and recycling bags for plastics (in one bag) and cardboard, cartons and paper (in one bag).

  Bins and Recyling FAQ

Greenbox

Green box

The green box is our kerbside recycling collection service for mixed glass bottles and jars, aerosol cans and food tins and drink cans.

Cans should be crushed where possible.  NO broken glass please.

Please put your recycling loose into your green box and not in plastic carrier bags (we can't recycle plastic carrier bags).  Please place your box at the kerbside before 7am as we cannot return if you miss us.

You may wish to mark your property name or number on your box to ensure safe return.

Green box covers

Green box covers are now available to collect from the Civic Centre. These make sure that the Green box contents stay dry and do not fall out or blow away. They come complete with ties to fasten securely to your box.

No green box?

Are you struggling with your green box?

If you have mobility problems or no storage we may be able to help. We have a small quantity of reusable woven bags available for use by anyone who has difficulty lifting/carrying, or for residents living in flats for example. Please call us on 01228 817200 to see if you think you need a bag instead of your green box.

You can also call us to arrange assistance with carrying your green box or woven bag if required.
