Talkin Adventures are the outdoor activity provider based at Talkin Tarn Country Park. From Easter to October you are welcome to hire a boat over weekends and school holidays. Available throughout the year are private activity sessions and watersports courses. These include Archery, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Canoeing, Kayaking, and a wide range of group activities for schools, youth groups, large families, hen/stag groups, birthday parties, and corporate team building etc..

Open water swimming season is open 1st April-.30th September.
The water temperature is 11., therefore open water swimming is permitted. The water temperature needs to be 11 degrees for swimming to be permitted.
Over recent years Talkin Tarn has become a popular location for open water swimming. However if you do fancy taking a dip there is some paperwork to complete.
Open water swimming permits are now available annually at a cost of £15.00 or a Visitor pass which is valid for up to two weeks is now also available at a cost of £6.00
Please download the relevant documents from this page. Read them carefully and sign them and then bring them to the tearoom along with your £15.00 registration fee, and you will then be issued with your Tarn swimming cap. You will need to re-register each year and be issued a different coloured cap. Alternatively you can register on site in the tearoom.

Can someone have a kayaker with them instead of a swimming buddy? Yes this is fine as it is in fact much safer. No payment required by the kayaker as long as they are there to solely support the swimmer. The kayaker must abide by normal rules for using the tarn (see normal boat launch conditions)

You can launch your own sailing boat, canoe, kayak or stand up paddleboard however no motorised boats are allowed. No inflatable dinghies or airbeds are allowed, inflatable canoes/kayaks/SUP's are permitted as long as they clearly display the ISO 6185-1 mark. Please purchase your Water sports Permit at the Boathouse Tearoom before launching, available between 10.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. daily. No boats are to be launched after 5 p.m. A permit costs £11.00 per day per for a boat, £4.00 for a canoe, kayak or SUP and you must read, sign, and comply to the Water sports Conditions of Use, available at the tearoom, or downloaded below.
Annual Launch Fee available for groups (£497) or individuals (£171), these are for boats or £80.00 for canoes, kayaks and SUP's. Please contact us via email for more details. Terms and conditions can be downloaded below.
It should be noted that group annual and day permits are not available on the day. They need to be applied for at least 1 week before your chosen activity date to give time for insurance details to be checked.
Therefore please send through copies of your risk assessment along with current insurance documents with a minimum cover of £5 million public liability cover prior to your chosen activity date.
Talkin Tarn waters are open to experienced anglers who want to test their skills against both pike and perch. The season is closed from March 15th to June 15th.
Please ensure you purchase your permit at the tearoom as soon as possible between the hours of 10.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. daily, (you may fish out of these hours) £4.00 per adult per day, £3.00 per child per day, maximum of two rods per person. Annual permits available at £45 per year.
Rod Licenses are required. All fish to be returned safely to Tarn. No night fishing. You are advised to have gained prior experience of Pike fishing before fishing at Talkin Tarn. For an information leaflet please ask in the Tearoom or see the below
