Neighbourhood Development Plans were introduced in the Localism Act (2011). They empower local people by allowing them to produce a development plan for their community. Neighbourhood Plans carry considerable weight in planning decisions within the designated Neighbourhood Plan Area and can be a powerful tool to help local people shape the development of their area over the lifetime of the Plan.
Currently there are no adopted Neighbourhood Development Plans within Carlisle District. Dalston Parish is, however, reaching the final stages in production of the Dalston Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan, which was publically consulted on in Autumn 2016. More information is available on the Dalston Parish website.
A number of other Parishes have also expressed an interest in beginning the Neighbourhood Plan process. More information on these will be provided once it is available.
