Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)

SHLAA 2014 Update

The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) aims to provide an evidence base of potential land for housing development, which will be used to inform site allocations and strategic policies in the emerging Carlisle Local Plan 2015-2030. It aims to identify all suitable and available sites with the potential to meet housing requirements up to and beyond the 15 year plan period. The key focus of this consultation is to ensure that the technical information already held for sites remains up to date and robust.

It is important to stress that the SHLAA is an information gathering exercise which forms part of the evidence base for the Local Plan. The inclusion of sites within the assessment does not imply that they will be allocated or receive planning consent for any form of development. The purpose is instead to understand the potential suitability of sites to accommodate housing and if they are available and deliverable for allocating if needed.

The SHLAA was consulted on between August and September 2014. It has since been updated in light of comments received during consultation.

If you have any questions regarding the SHLAA process or would like any further information, please contact a member of the Planning Policy Team on 01228 817192, or by email to [email protected].
