England & Wales Cricket Trust - Loan Scheme

Objectives of Fund

The interest free loan scheme aims to finance capital projects, including renovations, to improve facilities which contribute to increased participation in cricket and benefit the community.

Value Notes

The maximum loan available is £50,000.

Cricket clubs with a junior section can apply for £1,000 - £50,000.

Cricket clubs without a junior section can apply for £1,000 - £20,000.

All loans are interest free.  The loan period will be agreed during the application and acceptance process.  The maximum loan period will be five years. 

The loan shall be repaid in equal quarterly instalments over the period of the loan.  The repayment schedule will be agreed during the application and acceptance process.

Funding from the Loan Scheme cannot exceed 90% of the total costs of the project.

Match Funding Restrictions

A minimum of 10% match funding is required.

Who Can Apply

Cricket clubs in England and Wales are eligible to apply for a loan.  Eligible applicants must:

  • Be affiliated to the ECB via their County Cricket Board (CCB).

  • Evidence achievement/delivery of the charitable aims of the EWCT if not affiliated to the ECB via their CCB.

ECB Clubmark registration or accreditation is not a requirement when applying.

Examples of eligible projects include:

  • Building projects including:

    • Changing room development.

    • Clubhouse renovation.

    • Social area development.

    • Machinery store.

    • Score box.

    • Improvement in car parking facilities (for cricket purposes only).

    • CCTV/security shutters (specifically to protect cricket buildings).

    • Outdoor lighting (for security purposes).

    • Energy consumption / saving systems.

    • Water consumption / saving systems.

    • Flood defence measures.

  • Equipment purchases including:

    • Machinery.

    • Covers.

    • Sightscreens.

    • Scoreboard.

    • Mobile net cages.

    • Security/protection (perimeter fencing, ball stop netting etc).

  • Fine turf projects including:

    • Square.

    • Outfield.

    • Drainage and irrigation.

    • Flood defence measures.

  • Land purchase (for cricketing purposes only).

  • Non turf pitches including:

    • Non pitch practice facilities.

    • Match play pitches.

Any project that seeks to refurbish existing facilities will only be considered if compliant with current ECB, Sport England and/ or Sport Wales technical standards.

Reconditioned machinery is acceptable provided that a warranty of no less than 12 months can be supplied and the applicant can prove that they have the qualified people to operate it.

How To Apply

Applications can be made at any time.

It is recommended that applicants read the ECB Guidance on Project Development in preparation for making an application.

Applicants should submit an Expression of Interest form by email if they meet the criteria.
