Open 4 Business Portal

To support our businesses during the current COVID-19 crisis, and into the recovery phase, Carlisle City Council is providing free access to Open 4 Business. Open4Business is designed to support businesses locate relevant up to date funding opportunities.

The portal is updated regularly with new local, regional and national funding announcements and can be easily searched by businesses on the basis of their industry, region and business size. The portal then provides information on how to apply for funding and contact funders directly. To search for grants for your business you will first need to register on the Open4Business website

Cumbria Waste Management Environment Trust

Grants are available to community groups and organisations for environmental and community projects that are within a 10-mile radius of either Hespin Wood or Flusco Pike landfill sites (in parts of Eden, Carlisle and Allerdale).

Objectives of Fund

The Trust acts as a grant distribution body, and aims to fund environmental and community projects within the local authority areas of Carlisle, Eden and Allerdale, where the project is within 10 miles of Hespin Wood or Flusco Pike landfill sites.

Grants are available for Parish Councils, community groups, and other non-profit organisations with projects in these areas.

Value Notes

Grants available for Object D & Da are:

  • Minimum Grant of £2,000

  • Maximum Grant of £30,000

Grants for Object E

  • Maximum Grant of £5,000.

Third Party Funding

To receive Landfill Tax funding from CWMET, applicants must be able to source a contribution of 10% of the Landfill Tax being requested from a Third Party (ie an organisation not related to the applicant and not an Environmental Body). 

How To Apply

Applications are assessed at Grant Panel meetings, which are held three times a year. The application deadlines for 2020 are:

  • 14 January 2020

  • 5 May 2020

  • 8 September 2020.

An application form and guidelines are available upon request from the Cumbria Waste Management Environment Trust.

Applicants should contact the Trust to ensure they have the most up-to-date application guidance.
