Funding for Artists to Create Moving Image Works

| Return|

The Jerwood/FVU Awards provide an opportunity for UK-based moving-image artists in the first five years of developing their professional practice. The call for entries invites artists to make proposals for ambitious new works, two of which will be chosen for financial support.

For the current round, commissioned works will launch outside of London for the first time, with the premiere taking place at the Leeds Art Gallery in January 2022, before travelling to Jerwood Arts, London in April 2022.

Early-career artists are invited to make proposals for ambitious new works in any form of the moving-image. The scheme is looking for original and achievable proposals for a new moving-image work that will represent a step-change in the applicant’s practice.

The two awarded artists will receive £25,000 each, comprising a £6,000 artist fee and £19,000 production budget to create the proposed moving-image artwork.

Proposals must demonstrate clear thinking about how the project may need to be adapted due to circumstances and restrictions to activities in relation to coronavirus (COVID-19).

Who Can Apply

Applications are invited from early-career, individual moving-image artists or collaborative groups working with moving-image who are within the first five years of beginning their professional artistic practice.

Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK, be resident in the UK, and with the intention to continue residence within the UK until June 2022. They do not need to be a British National.

The funder cannot accept applications from:

  • Anyone who is undertaking full or part-time formal education at any point between November 2020 and June 2022 (including dissertation writing).

  • Projects for which additional funding is secured, or will need to be secured.

How To Apply

The Jerwood/FVU Awards 2022 returns to a biennial model following five annual editions, allowing artists a longer production period to fulfil the ambition of their proposals.

Applications are open from 11 June 2020 and will close on 20 July 2020 (13:00 BST).
