Open 4 Business Portal

To support our businesses during the current COVID-19 crisis, and into the recovery phase, Carlisle City Council is providing free access to Open 4 Business. Open4Business is designed to support businesses locate relevant up to date funding opportunities.

The portal is updated regularly with new local, regional and national funding announcements and can be easily searched by businesses on the basis of their industry, region and business size. The portal then provides information on how to apply for funding and contact funders directly. To search for grants for your business you will first need to register on the Open4Business website

The CITB offers support to industry through various grants and funds. CITB grants cover day-to-day training and its funds cover specific projects and commissions.

This programme is administered by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and funded by the Department for Education.

Established in 1964, CITB is a social enterprise and registered charity, devoted to building competitive advantage for the construction industry and the people who work in it. Its mission is to attract and support the development of people to construct a better Britain.

The Fund is part of the Government’s modern Industrial Strategy – a long-term plan to build a Britain fit for the future by helping businesses create jobs in every part of the UK. It underlines the Government’s commitment to improving education standards for everyone, so they can gain the skills they need to succeed and can secure good jobs.

The Fund is also part of the Government's National Retraining Programme which aims to support innovative ways of training new entrants and retraining adults in areas for which public funding is not available.

Objectives of Fund

The CITB offers support to industry through various grants and funds. CITB grants cover day-to-day training and its funds cover specific projects and commissions.

Value Notes

The following funds are available:

  • Skills and Training Fund
    Up to £10,000 for skills and training for small- or micro-sized employers and up to £25,000 for medium-sized employers.

  • Leadership and Management Development Fund
    Funds available for large construction employers (with more than 250 directly employed staff) to improve leadership and management skills.

  • Structured Fund
    For projects where CITB has identified a need for investment and commissions bids based on a set theme.

Who Can Apply

The Fund is open to:

  • Employer with large infrastructure or housing projects

  • Local authorities

  • Combined authorities

  • LEPs

  • Housing associations

  • Other clients (eg HS2)

  • Federations

  • Training groups

  • Colleges

  • Higher education

  • Private training

The funding would be provided to the organisation leading the bid.

New entrants

Those who are unemployed, a career changer or a young person not in education, employment or training (NEET), are asked to visit the programme website in September 2018, when it will be updated with information on regional on-site training hubs and how applicants can contact them.



How To Apply

Interest may be expressed at any time.

Eligible applicants who have submitted an expression of interest will be notified of the application deadline by email.

Applicants are asked to provide as much detail as possible about their proposed construction project. A CITB colleague will contact applicants to discuss their proposals.
