Open 4 Business Portal

To support our businesses during the current COVID-19 crisis, and into the recovery phase, Carlisle City Council is providing free access to Open 4 Business. Open4Business is designed to support businesses locate relevant up to date funding opportunities.

The portal is updated regularly with new local, regional and national funding announcements and can be easily searched by businesses on the basis of their industry, region and business size. The portal then provides information on how to apply for funding and contact funders directly. To search for grants for your business you will first need to register on the Open4Business website

The Linnean Society – UK Nature Engagement Grants

Grants are available for schools and community groups in the UK to increase youth engagement with nature.

Applications will be accepted from 1 September 2020 to 1 November 2020.


The Linnean Society of London is the world’s oldest active biological society, providing a forum for the discussion and advancement of the life sciences.

Objectives of Fund

This scheme is been launched by the Linnean Society to fund projects which increase youth engagement with local natural spaces and encourage a deeper appreciation and understanding of nature.

Value Notes

Grants of up to £1,000 are available, however applications for significantly lower amounts are welcome.

The Society is happy to co-fund projects along with other organisations.

Who Can Apply

Individuals and organisations who are linked to a school within the UK are welcome to apply. This includes (but is not limited to):

  • School staff

  • Student groups

  • Community groups

  • Small charities

Applicants are advised to contact the funder to confirm whether restrictions apply.

Eligible Expenditure

Funding is intended for projects which affect change or empower local young people and the surrounding communities to increase access to natural spaces and improve understanding of the local biodiversity.

Examples of eligible projects are as follows:

  • Running a school festival about nature

  • Painting community murals showcasing biodiversity in the area

  • Building a community garden

  • Creating a nature walk

  • Hiring a speaker to come and talk about local foraging

How To Apply

Applications will be accepted from 1 September 2020 to 1 November 2020.

Details of how to apply will be provided on the Linnean Society website once the scheme opens for applications on 1 September 2020.
