Open 4 Business Portal

To support our businesses during the current COVID-19 crisis, and into the recovery phase, Carlisle City Council is providing free access to Open 4 Business. Open4Business is designed to support businesses locate relevant up to date funding opportunities.

The portal is updated regularly with new local, regional and national funding announcements and can be easily searched by businesses on the basis of their industry, region and business size. The portal then provides information on how to apply for funding and contact funders directly. To search for grants for your business you will first need to register on the Open4Business website

Grants are available for Black-led social enterprises and charities with ethnic minority beneficiaries in the UK.

The PwC Foundation is a registered charity, set up in October 2011 to promote social inclusion and sustainable development in the UK.

Objectives of Fund

As part of the the PwC’s commitment to continue to build an inclusive culture and tackle racial inequality, they have recently appointed a committee which will allocate grants to increase their support for Black-led social enterprises, as well as charities with ethnic minority beneficiaries.

Value Notes

There are five levels of funding available:

  • Grants of up to £2,000.

  • Grants of £2,000

  • Grants of £5,000

  • Grants of £10,000

  • Grants of £25,000.

Who Can Apply

UK based social enterprises and registered charities are welcome to apply.

Applicant organisations must have UK based Black and Ethnic Minority leadership and/or beneficiaries.


United Kingdom


The following are not eligible for funding:

  • Political organisations lobby/pressure groups.

  • Activists.

  • Religious bodies (unless for identifiable, broadly based, community support activities).

Eligible Expenditure

The funding can be used to cover a range of costs associated with the work of the eligible organisation.

How To Apply

Applications are open until 30 October 2020. Applicants can expect a decision by 27 November.

The online application form can be found on the PwC Foundation’s website.

For selected grants of £10,000 and £25,000, last year’s impact statement and an impact report will be required from applicants. Applicants can send up to two documents as supporting evidence of impact.
