Tesco Bags of Help - Children and Young People Themed Grant Programme

Background

The Bags of Help Programme has been funded by Tesco customers from the proceeds of the 5p charge for plastic carrier bags as a result of a Government carrier bag levy.

The programme is managed by Groundwork, an environmental charity, in England, Wales and Northern Ireland in partnership with greenspace Scotland in Scotland.

Objectives of Fund

During October, November and December 2020 the grant scheme will provide grants of £1,000 to support projects focused on local children and young people.

Value Notes

Grants of up to £1,000 are available during the months of October, November and December 2020.

Who Can Apply

Applications will be accepted from a wide range of organisations, including:

  • Voluntary and community organisations.

  • Registered charities.

  • Community Interest Companies.

  • Friends of groups.

  • Schools.

  • Health bodies

  • Parish, Town, or Community Councils.

  • Local Authorities.

  • Housing organisations.

This list is not exhaustive and there will be many other types of not-for-profit organisations that will be funded.

Eligible Expenditure

The Children and Young People themed grant programme will fund many different types local projects examples include:

  • Mental Health support for Children & Young People – COVID-19 has had an impact on the health and wellbeing of children, particularly mental health.

  • Outdoor activities – sport & green space provision for children & Young People including use of green spaces support wellbeing through physical activities.

  • Non Statutory Educational activities – to support, widen and rebuild educational support networks for children, web based activities. Sport, exercise, and arts

  • Young carers– support for young carers as a result of current and continued isolation.

  • Bereavement counselling – offering support to children that have lost family members and support network due to COVID-19

  • Child poverty – to support organisations that offer family support that are further impacted by COVID-19, which could include food/educational packs, free activities.

  • Vulnerable at risk children – the pandemic has impacted vulnerable children with challenging home & family circumstances.

Other children and young people local good causes will also be considered.

How To Apply

There are no deadlines. This is a rolling programme and applications can be made at any time from 1 October 2020 until 31 December 2020.

Applicants should first locate their local Tesco store, read the guidance notes, then take the eligibility quiz.
