Launch of the 2019 Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize

| Return|

A contest to reward authors from around the world in three categories: Poetry, Fiction and Life Writing.

The recently rebranded Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize rewards authors from around the world in three categories: Poetry, Fiction and Life Writing. The winners in each category will receive funding and publication in Wasafiri Magazine.

To mark ten years of the programme, the funder has increased the prize sum for each category, from £300 to £1,000. The expectation of the increased value is that the prize will make a more meaningful difference for the winning writers’ careers.

The winners of each category will be published by Wasafiri in print and online. They will also be offered the Chapter and Verse or Free Reads mentoring scheme, in partnership with The Literary Consultancy (dependent on eligibility).

The competition is open to anyone from across the world who has not published a complete book in their chosen category. Entries may come from people of any nationality and any age group.

Entries for Fiction and Life Writing should be no longer than 3,000 words, and Poetry submissions should comprise of no more than five poems.

The deadline for entries 5pm on Friday 28 June 2019.
