Open 4 Business Portal

To support our businesses during the current COVID-19 crisis, and into the recovery phase, Carlisle City Council is providing free access to Open 4 Business. Open4Business is designed to support businesses locate relevant up to date funding opportunities.

The portal is updated regularly with new local, regional and national funding announcements and can be easily searched by businesses on the basis of their industry, region and business size. The portal then provides information on how to apply for funding and contact funders directly. To search for grants for your business you will first need to register on the Open4Business website

STFC CERN Business Incubation Centre Funding & Support - New Round Open

The Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) CERN Business Incubation Centre (BIC) is designed to support and growing start-ups and small businesses based on technologies originating from high energy physics.

The BIC combines the incubation experience of STFC with direct access to CERN and STFC’s intellectual property (IP), technologies and expertise. It helps businesses to grow from technical concept to market reality, accelerating start-ups into thriving high-tech companies.

STFC and CERN offer a package of knowledge and financial and business support to entrepreneurs and small businesses looking to develop their high-tech business ideas into successful commercial ventures including:

  • £40,000 of total funding for use on intellectual property protection, design, prototyping and market studies.

  • Access to up to 40 hours of CERN and 40 hours of STFC scientists and technical expertise.

  • Use of CERN intellectual property at favourable conditions.

  • Access to collaboration and networking opportunities at the Sci-Tech Daresbury science and innovation campus and through STFC and CERN networks.

  • Wider access to potential sources of financial support through STFC’s links with venture capitalists and funding bodies.

This support package is for any high-tech entrepreneur, research group or small start-up company looking to commercially develop innovative products or services from technologies originally developed for high energy physics.

Relevant technology areas include: particle accelerators, detectors, vacuum technology, cryogenics, magnets, superconductors, radio frequency, material science and high performance computing.

The supported business could be a start-up or a growing company in the UK.

The next deadline for applications to be received is ​5 March 2019.
