BBC Relaunches Caroline Aherne Bursary

| Return|

The BBC launched this bursary scheme for aspiring comedians, in memory of the late comedian, writer and actor, Caroline Aherne, who passed away in 2016.

Aimed at writers and performers, the Caroline Aherne Bursary seeks to foster a new generation of comedy performers by providing funding to support their future development.

The bursary will award £5,000 to one successful applicant to support the development of their work. In addition, the entrant will receive mentorship with BBC Comedy Commissioning to develop a pilot comedy script and support and access to comedy training sessions with BBC Writersroom.

This year, the bursary has been opened out to writer-performers from across the UK, not just the north of England, who can reflect modern Britain with voices that have not yet been heard. The BBC wants to unearth those stand out characters and fearless performances which are in the spirit of Caroline’s own creations, whatever the background or gender.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 15 November 2019.
