Gilchrist Educational Trust - Grants to Organisations

Grants are available to support organisations in the UK that are undertaking projects which fill up educational gaps or make a particular aspect of education or learning more widely available.

Fund Information

Objectives of Fund

The Trust makes small grants to UK organisations to support projects that will fill academic educational gaps, or make a particular aspect of education or learning more widely available.

Value Notes

Funding is at the discretion of the Trustees. As a guide, in the Trust's last financial year, the range of grants made in this category was from £500 to £4,000.

Who Can Apply

Applications will be accepted from organisations that are either registered as a company in the UK or registered as a charity in the UK.

Projects can take place overseas, but the application must come from a UK-based organisation.

Restrictions

Funding is not available for:

  • Social educational projects.

  • Primary or secondary schools.

  • Building projects or renovations.

  • Organisations with a political bias.

  • Organisations or groups formed for medical purposes, unless there is a significant educational element in the proposal.

  • Administrative or running costs.

  • Organisation seeking very large amounts of funding.

  • Duplicate work that is already being done by another organisation, or by the Trust.

Applications are unlikely to be considered for funding in consecutive years.

Eligible Expenditure

Funding is available for projects that will:

  • Benefit a number of people.

  • Fill an academic educational gap or make a particular aspect of education or learning more widely available.

The funds must be used for a particular educational project, or for a specific purpose such as furniture or equipment.

How To Apply

The annual deadline for applications is the end of February, for consideration in April/May.

Application forms are available on request by email from the Secretary.

Two copies of the form should be submitted to the Trust, one by email and one by post.
