Entries are now open for the 2020 Ray Fitzwalter Award, recognising the best work by early career investigative journalists who are uncovering corruption and wrongdoing.
The programme was established in memory of the investigative journalist Ray Fitzwalter, who was the longest-serving editor of Granada Television’s current affairs programme, World in Action.
The winner will receive a £4,000 cash prize to be partly spent on a future investigation during 2020, alongside the opportunity to be mentored by a panel of investigative journalists.
The award is open to early career journalists working on investigations in any medium, working and based within the UK but outside London. Applicants may be freelance or working with a broadcaster, a production company, or a print/online publication.
The closing date for entries is 20 February 2020.
Next deadline: Thursday 20 February 2020.
All entries must be supported by a written reference by an editor authenticating the applicant’s role in the investigation.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the Nations & Regions: Media Futures event at the University of Salford’s MediaCityUK campus where the winner will be announced.
