The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation is managing the Fund.

Objectives of Fund

The Fund aims to support sport for development organisations to:

  • Deliver new or adaptive provisions to continue to provide support to children and young people during the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Cover unavoidable organisational costs, so that they can withstand the current challenges and help build stronger young people once restrictions are lifted.

Value Notes

Grants of up to €10,000 (around £9,000) are available.

Who Can Apply

Laureus Sport for Good Foundation partners can apply for funding, as well as other non-profit organisations around the world who are already using sport to deliver development outcomes.

Restrictions

The following are not eligible for funding:

  • Humanitarian relief.

  • Projects focussing on delivering food or health supplies.

Eligible Expenditure

Organisations can apply for funding to:

  • Deliver new or adaptive provision to continue to provide support to children and young people during the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Cover unavoidable organisational costs that result from the pandemic, ensuring that the organisation can continue to support children and young people going forward.

The grants can be used to:

  • Reach those in need:

    • Convert programme activities into online, distance-based activities and resources.

    • Hold regular sessions and activities with mentors, educators, psychologists and coaches to support the physical and mental health of children and young people most in need.

    • Organise outreach activities, safely run, to reach and support families, aiming to strengthen the safety of the places where the children and young people spend the time in social isolation.

  • Adapt to new ways:

    • Equip coaches with the resources and training they need to support children and young people remotely.

    • Adapt safeguarding policies and protocols to ensure activities in the digital space are as safe and secure as normally run programmes on the pitches and fields, on the courts and tracks, and in the school sports facilities.

  • Invest in the future:

    • Retain staff and volunteers through the crisis so that at the end of the tunnel, they can resume activities and continue the critical support to children and young people.

    • Help young people at risk of offending/re-offending or of drifting back into gangs and violence to maintain their course towards more sustainable and legal livelihoods, employment and entrepreneurship.

How To Apply

The Fund is accepting applications on a rolling basis until all funding has been awarded.

Guidelines and the online application form are available on the website of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
