A global grant programme for Black content creators on the YouTube platform.
Through the Black Voices Fund, YouTube plans to directly invest in 500 creators by the end of 2023, with the goal to equip Black creators with the resources to succeed on the platform.
The fund will invest with an intention: to present fresh narratives that emphasise the intellectual power, authenticity, dignity and joy of Black voices, as well as to educate audiences about racial justice.
The fund will be used to acquire and produce YouTube Originals programming, focused on Black experiences around the world, and to directly support Black creators and artists so that they can thrive on YouTube.
With a total budget of US $100 million, the scheme aims to directly empower 500+ creators and artists from across the world to support, grow, and fund their channels and content development.
Each creator will receive an undisclosed amount of seed funding to use as they see fit to develop their channels - whether that means hiring a video editor or purchasing new lighting equipment, for example - as well as additional support from YouTube in the form of trainings, workshops and networking opportunities.
